Places to Visit in the Cape Winelands

The Cape Winelands is a scenically enchanting region of dramatic mountains and fertile valleys, world-renowned South African wine Estates, synonymous with all the best that the Cape has to offer. Gabled Cape Dutch homesteads steeped in history scattered amongst hillsides and valleys.
Stellenbosch
Stellenbosch is the heartbeat of the Cape Winelands with the University acting as the main thoroughfare, where modern student life sits comfortably side by side with the historical and architectural heritage on view. The Boutique River Manor Country House and Spa is a little gem, hidden within one of the many oak-lined avenues just a short stroll from the centre of Stellenbosch.
Franschhoek
Franschhoek is referred to as the Gourmet Capital of South Africa, and is certainly worth indulging your palate at one of the Internationally acclaimed restaurants that feature in South Africa's top 100 restaurants list. The Monneaux at Franschhoek Country House and Le Quartier Francais are to name a couple and both can accommodate their guests post dinner at their own personal winelands retreat, the latter being a member of the Relais and Chateaux collection. Positioned in a more rural winelands setting at the foot of the Franschhoek Mountains, you have an enviable choice of working Wine Estates, such as the Klein Genot Wine and Country Estate, a tranquil Cape Dutch Style farmhouse or the exclusive Mont Rochelle Hotel and Mountain Vineyards.
Hermanus
Travel south from the Cape Winelands and enter the Whale coast region of Hermanus, situated along the shoreline of Walker Bay. A sleepy fishing village for the majority of the year but find yourself there between the months of July and October and you will witness some of the best land-based whale watching in the World. Perched on the cliff edge overlooking Walker Bay the Relais and Chateaux graded Marine Hotel offers a classical Georgian feel, plus a prime position for spotting the Great Southern Right Whale. For a more hands on approach, the Grootbos Private Nature Reserve is the Premier Marine and Botanical destination in this region, set within a 3,000 acre nature reserve offering two luxurious stone and timber lodges. Grootbos Private Nature Reserve offers a spectrum of activities such as Nature drives, Dolphin and Whale-watching boat tours and for the real adrenalin junkies - Cage Diving with the Great White Shark!
