Places to Visit in KwaZulu Natal

The Kwazulu Natal region is a year round holiday destination with its sub tropical beaches, striking mountain ranges, fascinating historical sites and luxury safari lodges offering a big 5 game experience.
The Drakensberg Mountains
The Drakensberg Mountain Range is a World Heritage site and the highest mountain range in South Africa. Bordering the principality of Lesotho it offers beautiful walking trails, cascading waterfalls and great fishing, ideal for the outdoor enthusiast. A favourite getaway hotel of ours is Cleopatra’s Mountain Farmhouse, a gourmet getaway close to Giants Castle Nature Reserve and a perfect position to visit the Drakensberg Mountain Range. The cuisine at Cleopatra’s is a revelation due to the dedication of Richard and Mouse Poynton, the owners of Cleopatra’s Mountain Farmhouse.
Zululand Battlefields
Zululand has the largest concentration of battle sites, involving the Boers, Zulus and British, dating back since the 1830`s these stories are narrated with such enthusiasm and vigour you feel the tension as you listen. The most well known Anglo-Zulu battle sites are at Isandlwana, Rorke`s Drift and Fugitives Drift. Fugitives Drift Lodge is at the fore-front of Heritage tourism, an eight suite cottage filled with Zulu War Memorabilia and within close proximity to the “Sphinx” of Isandlwana.
KwaZulu Natal Game Reserves
Leave the absorbing historical sites behind and head toward the turquoise Indian Ocean coast, where you will find the oldest Game Reserve in South Africa. Hluhluwe Game Reserve is a large and incredibly scenic park with rippling hills covered in low acacia bush. The north of the park is more rugged and mountainous with forest and grassland, whilst the south and west regions are more undulating with open savannah. The park contains an immense diversity of fauna and flora and is particularly famous for its conservation of endangered black rhino and the largest population of white rhino in the world. The game reserves are a 'must see' on holiday to Kwazulu Natal!
