Altes Landhaus Country Lodge

Antique furnishings and tasteful décor revives Altes Landhaus Victorian past, whilst pine floorboards and high-beamed ceilings reflect its rustic surroundings. With great dedication, they have recreated an elegant tribute to colonial country living. Leisurely walks around the scenic gardens, a short drive to the limestone Cango Caves, Cheetah sanctuary and Ostrich Farm provide an array of activities during your relaxing stay at the Altes Landahus Country Lodge.

Oudtshoorn is sometimes overlooked en route to Knysna and Plettenberg, but I personally recommend including a stay at Altes Landhaus, echoed by the continual appraisals from Guests feedback in recent years.

St James of Knysna Hotel

The St James of Knysna is an exclusive family run Country House Hotel in an ideal position, pitched on the shoreline of Knysna Lagoon with uninterrupted views across to the Knysna Heads. St James is set within three acres of lush manicured gardens, and has two swimming pools and a jetty, ideal for a relaxing time fishing or admiring the stunning views.

The cuisine was top notch and the staff extremely attentive, try and book a table close to the window and dine away while the moon glistens on the rippling lagoon. Gillian is certainly running a little gem there!

Hunters Country House

Hunters Country House is an exclusive family run Boutique retreat, surrounded by beautiful gardens, overlooked by the imposing Tsitsikamma Mountains. A member of the Relais and Chateaux collection, this thatched Manor House combines elegance with comfort, fine service with warm hospitality. The superb gourmet cuisine, reflecting the rich diversity of South African cultures, is complemented by the finest Estate & Auction wines available. Hunters Country House welcomes and caters for children of all ages and has a fully supervised recreation area.

Hunters Country House is home to a stunning little chapel, set within the forest. This intimate hide-away has been the venue for numerous weddings I have arranged over the years.

Tsala Treetop Lodge

Inspired by ancient African ruins, Tsala Treetop Lodge is a spectacular lodge nestled within the canopy of a pristine indigenous forest. The rich earthy colours blend with the majestic stone-masonry and extravagant timber and glass structure that form this secret hideaway. Each of the 10 very private suites are linked by wooden walkways and exude elegance and luxury, from the oversized bath to the individual infinity pools featured in each suite.

During your stay in Plettenberg I suggest a visit to “The Heath” a local arts and craft factory that has provided stunning and unusual furniture that adorns Tsala Treetop Lodge. Take a minute to look at their chairs on the decking at Tsala, you will understand what I mean!

The Plettenberg Hotel

Built on a rocky headland, with breathtaking views out to sea, the Relais and Chateaux, Plettenberg Hotel is one of the most revered hotels in South Africa. The stunning Plettenberg Luxury hotel has 38 luxury rooms and luxury suites all of which are air-conditioned and offer a truly idyllic and satisfying experience. The Plettenberg hotel facilities include the ultra chic Sandbar and the contemporary “Sands” Restaurant.

Grab a cocktail from the Sandbar, and venture to the Pool and view the ocean beyond... A view hard to beat, especially if you catch sight of the dolphins playing in the aqua water below.
