Self Drive the Garden Route

 

The Garden Route is about sun filled skies, sandy beaches, rolling waves, breathtaking scenery, indigenous fynbos, and typical South African hospitality. The Garden Route is a very safe self-drive destination which starts from the Mossel Bay area and finishes at Storms River in the Tsitsikamma National Park.

Oudtshoorn

Encompassed by the Outeniqua Mountains to the south and the Swartberg Mountains to the north, Oudtshoorn is a superb base to fully appreciate the local attractions in this region. Stay at the Altes Landhaus Country Lodge with its picturesque surroundings, cradled within the Schoemanshoek Valley. Attractions such as the awe inspiring Cango Caves, Cango Ostrich Farm and the Cango Cheetah Sanctuary can be viewed whilst in the Oudtshoorn region.

Knysna

Travelling from Oudtshoorn through to Knysna may allow for a leisurely game of golf at the internationally acclaimed Gary Player designed Fancourt Hotel and Country Club-if you are lucky! Knysna is one of the Southern Cape Coast's best known holiday destinations, situated between lush indigenous forests and the peaceful shores of the Knysna lagoon. The most noted attraction being the Knysna heads, consisting of two immense sandstone cliffs that guard the mouth of the lagoon that connect the estuary with the sea.

Plettenberg Bay

Plettenberg Bay is to South Africa what St Tropez is to France's Riviera, and famous as one of the most beautiful resort areas in South Africa. Plettenberg Bay Resort enjoys a marvellous temperate climate, both winter and summer, with warm sea temperatures that encourage the many water sports activities encountered here. The most prestigious hotel in the town would be The Plettenberg Hotel, a Relais & Chateaux hotel perched high above Lookout Beach. For an alternative feel, just of few minutes drive from the town, the choice could be either the Hunters Country House or Tsala TreeTop Lodge which form part of the Hunters Collection. Plettenberg Bay has a plethora of activities to captivate you, with excursions such as trips to the Elephant Sanctuary, Monkeyland, Mountain biking and deep sea fishing to wet the appetite.
