Mombo Camp, Moremi National Park

Mombo Camp is a luxurious tented camp on a private island over looking floodplains that literally teem with wildlife. At the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve, adjoining the northern tip of Chief`s Island, this very special and exclusive camp provides the ultimate safari retreat. The camp has nine luxuriously furnished tents, raised off the ground. The guests' rooms and walkways are raised two metres off the ground, allowing game to roam freely through the camp.

Whilst enjoying a sumptuous breakfast at Mombo Camp, we witnessed a dramatic kill right in front of us. The game is so good at Mombo you don`t want to leave the Camp!

Duba Plains, Okavango Delta

Duba Plains is perhaps the Okavango Delta's most remote camp. It is located in a private 30 000-hectare reserve in the furthermost region of the Delta. The ensuite tented camp is situated on an island, surrounded by expansive seasonally flooded plains and shaded by tall ebony and fig trees.  This pristine region is home to Lion, Lechwe, Elephant, Bat-eared fox, and huge herds of Buffalo, as well as a large variety of Okavango Delta bird life.

At Duba Plains it is not uncommon to experience a game drive with a difference, in the past Buffalo have been known to take out the lion!

Xigera Camp, Okavango Delta

Xigera is a luxury tented camp in the Moremi Game Reserve, situated in the heart of the Okavango Delta. Permanent water all year round allows an unparalleled variety of activities including foot safaris, mokoro trips, game drives and powerboat outings in total privacy. Enjoy a true Delta experience while you sit back in a mokoro (dugout canoe) and silently glide through the wonders of the tranquil Okavango waterways. Xigera Camp consists of luxuriously furnished tented rooms, each room is raised off the ground on a wooden deck offering a superb view of the seasonal floodplain and waterhole.

The camp "newspaper" (a sand pit built into the bridge to capture paw prints) is "read" each morning and provides information on unseen nightly visitors to camp. I was at the opening of this camp and the Hyena found the new leather sofas an interesting texture to chew on!

Kings Pool Camp, Linyanti

Kings Pool Camp is located in the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve in Northern Botswana, on the western boundary of Chobe National Park. The Linyanti area has a large wildlife resource with a wide variety of species, but it is most noted for its very large Elephant population, which can reach enormous densities during the winter months. Accommodation is probably the most luxurious in all of Botswana. There are nine twin-bedded tented rooms under cool thatch, overlooking the hippo filled lagoon in front of the camp.

Kings Pool Camp has two hides, one that guests can watch game come down to drink, while having a siesta. The other is an underground hide with the water at eye-level - seeing the feet and the trunks of elephant transcend that of an ordinary safari.

Jacks Camp, Makgadikgadi Pans

The Camp creates an oasis of civilisation in what is considered to be one of the harshest environments on earth. Jacks Camp offers a complete desert experience, focusing on the geology, archaeology, and anthropology not forgetting the desert-adapted wildlife. Quad biking across the vast salt pans of the Kalahari, tracking with the San Bushmen and the mesmerizing scenes as the desert transforms as rain falls and the flamingoes flock. For these few months, this harsh oasis becomes a game viewing paradise.
